Trip Overview

Gokyo Lakes are located in the valley immediately west of the Mt. Everest (8,848 m) and east of Renjo-La pass (5,360 m), through Gokyo valley trek which is the most beautiful valley and less crowded than the main Everest Base Camp trail. It was very popular trekking destination in the Mt. Everest region till 1996.  But after 1996 A.D, Everest Base Camp trail is more popular because of the books & movie. It was only after 1996 10th of May, a huge disaster/tragedy on Mt. Everest Expedition, killing 10 people just over 7,800 m, released of the books INTO THE THIN AIR, CLIMB & movie called IMEX. The small herding settlement of Gokyo (4,775 m) lies on the banks of the third lake in a series of small turquoise mountain Lakes, the most amazing place in Gokyo is to enjoy view of 4 mountains above 8,000m namely Mt. Cho- Oyu (8,201 m), Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m)  & Mt. Makalu (8,463 m) &  from Gokyo Ri (5,360 m), a panoramic view point, in addition to this one can have a look at the tremendous ice ridge between Cho Oyu (8,201 m) and Gyachung Kang (9,792 m) thought to be the most dramatic panorama in Khumbu region. This trek explores the breath-taking Gokyo valley, purely a high altitude trek where the altitude remains above 4,000 m most of the day. Gokyo is a land of high altitude Lakes and icy Glaciers. The Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal & biggest in the world, can be viewed from vantage point of Gokyo Ri (5,360 m). Recently, Gokyo valley was promoted as the high altitude wetland region where the birds are migrate from Saiberia in the winter & go back in May each year! Without any doubt, the best view in the world from Gokyo Ri / peak in 360 degree!
