Trip Overview

The Langtang valley treks runs east to west, north of Kathmandu valley, on the border with Tibet/China. It is a beautiful alpine valley containing some pristine examples of temperate and sub- alpine vegetation. Langtang is one of the most accessible trekking regions in Nepal and offers a wilderness experience without an arduous trek. A visit to the Langtang region offers an opportunity to explore Tamang & Bhotias culture, costumes and villages, climb small peaks of Kyangjin Ri or Tserko Ri and visit glaciers at a comfortable and relaxed pace. The main attraction of the trek is Kyangjin Gompa which allows time for exploration of the extensive glacier system in the higher valley and small peak climbs. Climbing without ropes over Tserko Ri (4,984 m) gives a splendid views across the valley to Ganja -La to the south, Langtang Himal to the north, Jugal and Dorje Lakpa to the east and Langtang Lirung to the west. Langtang Gosaikunda trek is starts from the Kathmandu rim toward the frozen Lake areas of Gosaikunda via eastern ridge of Helambu valley. Gosaikunda Lake is a sacred/ Holy Lake which is the most popular pilgrimage destinations outside Kathmandu for Hindu & Buddhist devotees. Hindu legend said that the Lakes were formed when the Lord Shiva plunged his trident into the ground in order to obtain water because he was so thirsty due to the burning throat, while he had drunk the poison in order to save the earth from explosion while Gods & Demons together churching the ocean to obtained the ambrosia, wishing to get immoral, the Lakes are at an altitude of 4,380 meters. After an adventurous trek over Lauri Binayak- La pass (4,640 m), we trek down Langtang Khola then eventually upstream to the alpine valley of Langtang, the focus point is Kyangjin Gompa (3,870 m) where high mountains surrounded you at a comfortable altitude. After the wonderful exploration of Langtang Himal and its neighboring peaks, we then trek down following the Langtang Khola, the biggest glacier river in Nepal until Syabrubesi (1,470 m), where we take a Public/local bus  drive back to Kathmandu via Dhunche & Trishuli Bazaar.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Arrival in Kathmandu

    Upon your arrival at Kathmandu Airport, our Airport representative meets you at the airport then transfer to a centrally located 3-star Hotel in Kathmandu. The evening is free to explore the city.
  • Day 2

    Sightseeing in Kathmandu

    After breakfast, our professional tour guide accompanies you on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley, on this tour you will visit most of the major UNESCO Heritage Sites including Swayambhunath, Hanumandhoka Palace (Kathmandu Durbar square), Pashupatinath Temple and Bouddhanath stupa, all of them are located less than 6 km in a perimeter.
  • Day 3

    Drive to Sundarijal trek to Chisapani (2,194 m/5-6 hrs).

    We drive by private vehicle from Kathmandu hotel to Sundarijal, our treks starting point, near a small Hydro power plant. The trail will enter through the Shivapuri watershed and Wildlife Reserve, recently up gradated as the newest & smallest National Park, a home of Leopard, wild Pig, Deer, Monkey and Bears! The first settlement you will come across is Mulkharka with Tamang inhabitants. The route heads ups the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisopani. Chisopani is a unique location and an interesting place to visit. It has magnificent views from Annapurna to Gauri Shanker, the panoramic views of more than 20 peaks over 6,000 m!
  • Day 4

    rek from Chisopani to Kutumsang (2,470 m/6-7 hrs).

    The trail continues to drop from Chisopani on a good, sometimes level, trail that crosses meadows and fields. You will then descend through Pati Bhanjyang (1,830 m) and then walk in a level for 45 minutes. Then immediately, climbing for at least 1 & half hours passing by Chipling village (2,170 m), till Jogini Danda (2,470 m), then descend to Gul/Golphu Bhanjyang(2,130 m). The trail climbs the ridge from Gul Bhanjyang to another unnamed pass at 2,620 meters. The meadow makes a good camping spot, and is downhill to Kutumsang at 2,470 meters on a saddle atop of the ridge.
  • Day 5

    Trek from Kutumsang to Tharepati (3,690 m/5 hrs).

    The trek continues North up the Yurin Danda ridge and affords views of the surrounding peaks. The trail climbs above Kutumsang on a steep, eroded trail mostly through fir. Oaks and rhododendron forest where there are no permanent settlements. The trail then descends to Magen/Mangengoth Goth (2,420 m). After Lunch at this place, we climb, steeply at first then more gradually; the trail goes up and down passing through the forest and across flower strewn meadows. From the top of this famous ridge of Thare pati, the panoramic view of mountains & both sides green valley’s (Trishuli valley & Helambu valley).
  • Day 6

    Trek from Tharepati to Phedi (3,730 m/ 5/6 hrs).

    The trail climbs through rugged country, rocky trails and small streams to reach Phedi by passing Ghopte (3,430 m). You can see the lush green valley on the south and rocky wall on the north during this part of the trek, the cascading waterfall will give you the motivation to continue. Phedi is on the bottom of the Lauribinayak Peak.
  • Day 7

    Phedi to Gosaikunda (4,380 m) via Lauribina pass (4,610 m /6 hrs).

    We leave Phedi early in the morning to cross Lauribinayak Pass. It is a steep trek up passing through lush scenery and green hills. From the top of Lauribinayak pass, you get excellent views of Rolwaling, Jugal Himal, Gang Chhenpo, Langshisha and many other snow capped mountains and peaks. While you desend about 200 meters down passing four Lakes with spectacular views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Annapurna to reach Gosaikunda Lake. There are about a dozen Lakes in the Gosaikunda Basin, the main three being Saraswatikunda, Bharabkunda and Gosaikunda. According to legend, Gosaikunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world. There are few tea houses / lodges at the Lakeside. Gosaikunda Lake is a Holy Lake where people gather during the month of August to pay homage to God Mahadev (Shiva) and there is a big fair during this time on full moon day. Every year, full moon of the August, here is the biggest festival of taking holy bath in the Lake. Thousands of pilgrims of Hindus as well as Buddhist are visiting the Lakes. The shamanism dances are also observed during the fair/festivals. It’s so colorful caravan & we will see the wild flowers in the areas.
  • Day 8

    Trek Gosaikunda Lake to Sing Gompa (3,330 m/4-5 hrs).

    Today, we follow a rugged trail with dramatic views; to the West is Himal Chuli, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal. On a clear day one can even see the Annapurna range and Dhaulagiri can be seen rising up behind and to the North across the valley is Langtang Lirung. You pass a few huts in the high pasture of Laurebinayak pass and trek downhill passing through a rocky trail with magnificent mountain views. There are a few lodges/ hotels at Lauribina (3,910 m).If the weather is clear, you will see the very good views from this place. Here, you descend to the small village of Chyolangpati (3,655 m) at the bottom of Lauribina. Now, we trek a gentle descend path which is quite pleasant until you reach Sing Gompa. There is a well managed local cheese factory and a Buddhist Monastery to visit.
  • Day 9

    Trek Sing Gompa to Thulo Syabru (2,130 m/4 hrs).

    From Sing Gompa, it is a gradual descend through forests of blue pine, oak, fir and rhododendron to the ridge of Foprang (3,250 m).Then We descend to Thulo Syabru ,by passing Dursang village, where there is a Buddhist monastery and a local primary school. This is a fascinating village with its extensive area of millet terraces and where each house is set above its neighbors, in a long line up the very crest of the ridge. It's a great place to wander about, catching glimpses of Tamang life, admiring the beautifully carved wooden windows or simply relaxing in the sun.
  • Day 10

    Trek Thulo Syabru to Lama Hotel (2,470 m/ 5-6 hrs).

    The early part you walk downhill until you reach Pahiro (Landslide ),where there are two tea -houses. On the way, we cross a suspension bridge and pass through a small forest of bamboo Oaks and rhododendron. Leaving Pahiro, the trek is ascends along the bank of Langtang Khola (A small River) all the way to Lama Hotel via Bamboo & Rimchel. There is a resting place surrounded by a bamboo forest where we can enjoy lunch at the few (3 lodges), available tea houses. This is very nice place to take your Lunch before climbing till Rimche. This is like a Glacier River Beach!
  • Day 11

    Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3,430 m/6-7 hrs).

    As we continue climbing, there are occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. At Ghora Tabela (3,000 m) the trail emerges from the forest. Once there was a Tibetan resettlement project here, but now it is a Nepalese army post though it has no permanent inhabitants. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer season. You will passing through a few tiny villages like Thyangsyap( 3,140 m) & Chyamki (3,230 m). There is a monastery which you can visit shortly before arriving at the village of Langtang, the headquarters of the Langtang National Park. The houses of Langtang and its neighboring villages are of the flat-roofed Tibetan style, surrounded by stone walls enclosing fields of buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley.
  • Day 12

    Trek Langtang village to Kyangjin (3,870 m/3 hrs).

    The trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures as the valley opens up further and the views become more extensive. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyangjin. Here there is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory. You should arrive at Kyangjin by lunch time allowing time to acclimatize and explore the area. It is a dramatic setting with snowy peaks surrounding you in all directions.
  • Day 13

    Trek Kyangjin to Lama Hotel (2,470 m).

    From Kyangjin, we retrace the route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After haning Lunch at Ghore Tabela, we continue the gradual descend to Lama Hotel.
  • Day 14

    Trek from Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi (1,470 m).

    Today, we trek on a flat level path until we reach Sherpa Gaon at 2,560 meters passing through terraces and green hills. This part of the trek is extremely pleasant and picturesque. Sherpa Gaon is a Sherpa village with amazing tradition and Buddhist culture. There are houses made of stone, wood and zinc and a few modern houses. The next part of your trek is full of ups and downs until reaching Kyangjin village. At this point, you will be amazed by the views of Ganesh Himal in panorama, the part of Tamang Heritage trail, Chilime Hydro Power Dam / Reserved, including Kerung peak of Tibet and many others. Finally, our trek goes descends steeply to Wangal and then gradually to the Kerung River /Bhote Koshi. After we cross a suspension bridge over it, it only takes about 15 minutes to reach our destination, Syabru Besi. There is a new settlement as people from far villages have migrated here.
  • Day 15

    Drive to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi by Public/Local bus & it takes about 8/9 hrs including lunch break.

    Today, we drive through scenic foothills and ridge line vistas to Kathmandu. The first part of our journey is through the bumpy gravel road & sometimes passes through landslides depends on which time of the year we trek. After Trishuli Bazaar, the journey is smooth through blacktopped good road to Kathmandu by passing through many villages, terraces & smaller sizes of many Trout Fish farms/ ponds along the way till entering into Kathmandu valley.
  • Day 16

    Airport transfer

    We will transfer you to the airport, on time for your departure flight. Note: if you want to have private Jeep /Landcruiser from Syabrubesi -Kathmandu, for your comfortable journey, it will be extra cost for you, but could be arrange!
